Re: Mercury Transit - Little Guy gonna Fry

I recalculated using the Mercury's closest and farthest distance from the Sun. At aphelion (43,382, 210 mi) the distance you'd have to be from Mercury to eclipse the Sun would be 152,599 miles and at perihelion (28,583,820 mi) you would be 100,544 miles away. So if you put yourself in an orbit 100,0...

Re: Mercury Transit - Little Guy gonna Fry

Using the distance of 35 million miles from Mercury to the Sun, I'm going to guess that you would have to be no more than 123,113.62 miles from Mercury for it to cover the Sun.

Re: SPMOS Sneak away tomorrow?

It looks like a nice night for stargazing. I don't have gate access so let me know if you're going and what time you'll arrive and I'll meet you there. I would leave for home at midnight.

Lunar eclipse

Sunday night will be a great night for a lunar eclipse. I plan on using a 4" f7.5 refractor with a Canon 50D in an attempt to make a time lapse of the eclipse. I'm looking for some advice about various settings. I should have good polar alignment and the Losmandy G8 Gemini has a lunar tracking speed...

Re: Chinese Space Station Coming Down

Maybe there is still some eccentricity to what's left of the orbit. I should go set up the GoPro on time lapse and point it towards the NW.
