Comet Neowise from Manchac

Post by Lmccormick » Sat Jul 18, 2020 1:21 am

I set up on the west side of I-55 across from the Port of Manchac. This was taken at 8:53pm. The mosquitos were brutal.

Lowell, I really like the second photo with the water and building. Would you happen to have a similar one with more of the water in the foreground. If so, you may have a reflection image of the comet and some stars in the water.

Great shots of the comet, Lowell! (You too, Barry, if you're reading)

I was excited to see it from downtown N. Kenner Friday night. It wasn't naked eye, but obvious in binocs!

It's not Hale-Bopp but I'll take it! :D

This one has the most water but the bright lights of the camp wash out any reflection. Last night the camp was dark but I didn't shoot anything low and wide field. I shot thru the Vixen ED80 mounted on a small mount but all the shots were out of focus. I focused on a cloud in daylight and all the shots looked good on the camera's screen but I didn't enlarge them to check, I assumed that they were in focus. But they showed promise so on the next clear night I'll fight the mosquitos and try again. The larger image is taken with a Canon T2i with a Canon 100mm L series, so about 160mm focal length. I should have used the self-timer. Next time I will try for that reflecting view. It's interesting to see the position of the comet change over 24 hours.
